Winona Laura Horowitz professionally known by the name Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from her hometown. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder believes she is Jewish, is descended from Ryder's Jewish father. Uria is Ryder's younger sister. Jubal, Sunyata and Sunyata are her half-siblings. When Ryder was only seven her family moved from Mendocino County, California. Mendocino County California. The family didn't have electricity. The books on television were Ryder's only distraction to pass the time. Eventually, she was a voracious reader. Ryder aged 12 enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in the year 1983. Lucas the film, which was released in 1986 which was her first big part. Ryder was only fifteen when she landed the role. Ryder experienced bullying at high school. She hoped acting would bring about a change. It didn't turn out. However, she kept working towards her dream. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big breakthrough. Ryder continued to play successful roles in various films. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her performance on The Age of Innocence (1993).
